FAQ

Why is there no software update option on the site?

All electronics users are accustomed to the fact that the software of devices needs to be constantly updated to improve functionality, improve security, etc. But this does not apply to professional equipment. Crypton equipment is used mainly by TV companies and Internet service providers for TV broadcasting. Any defects or instability in work can spoil the mood of tens of thousands of viewers. Realizing this, Crypton conducts very serious testing of devices with fixing all errors and failures when exposed to destabilizing factors. This work is very time-consuming and laborious. Special equipment is used.

If the device works and fulfills its functionality, then update the software is not needed! Please note that your device with the new program isn't testet! So the possibility of updating the software is provided, but the software is not available on the website. This is done on purpose so that a TV company employee who is accustomed to updating his gadget, without the knowledge of the management, would not have the opportunity to reflash the device!

Sometimes it is necessary to update the software of professional receivers with the advent of a new scrambling system and CAM modules, new high-speed satellite transponders, new satellite broadcasting formats. In this case, our support service responds quickly and provides the necessary update.

What is the difference between a professional and a household receiver?

Receiver functionality

If household receivers are intended for individual use, then they have one output program. Even if the receiver has several outputs (now the most common are digital - HDMI and analog - Video + 2 Audio), then all outputs have one program. At the outputs of professional receivers, there is a stream of programs and also other interfaces are used:

  1. Asynchronous serial interface, or ASI — streaming data format that is designed to broadcast an MPEG-TS transport stream over coaxial or fiber-optic communication lines.
  2. Internet Protocol (IP) — a routable network layer protocol of the TCP / IP stack. These interfaces are the de facto standard for the device that is used to build a television broadcast headend. New equipment more often uses the IP interface.

Device technical parameters

The TV company needs guarantees that the receiver parameters will be relevant for a long time, i.e. if a TV company buys a receiver, then it should not be improven tomorrow. This means that the parameters of the device must comply with standards and be close to technical limits. For this, Crypton uses the best and most modern solutions in its developments. The receiver operates in a control room surrounded by many other devices that should not interfere with each other in terms of power supply, grounding, radio emission, etc. For power independence, Crypton uses proven certified power supplies. In order to reduce radio emission and increase noise immunity, many development iterations have been made over the years. Constructive measures are specially taken and low-frequency internal interboard interfaces are used.

Stable performance

If you watch the program alone at home, then the TV company has thousands, tens of thousands of such viewers ... And no matter day or night, even a single malfunction won't go unnoticed . Instability is not allowed. This is one of our key tasks.

Reliability and life time

Professional receivers are designed for years of continuous operation. The TV company, starting broadcasting, does not plan to turn it off and does not plan to change equipment. It determines the broadcast format, composes a set of equipment and then works non-stop. The clients of the company also rely on this. And 20 years in the life of a TV company is not such a long period of time. Crypton equipment was included in some places about 20 years ago and is still working! And if it breaks, will it be thrown away? No! Because it's in a working kit and no one wants to experiment. We repair it promptly and it works further!

Imagine, if we used ordinary components that are used in Chinese production, then in 5 years we would have to change all electrolytic capacitors, connectors, and even completely printed circuit boards in all manufactured equipment. This does not mean that we provide a lifetime warranty. The warranty period is normal, since no one gives a long guarantee for components, and our devices belong to a low price range. But we carefully select the components, the manufacturer of printed circuit boards and strictly strive for the quality of the installation, because we know for sure that any of our shortcomings will cause losses to the TV company and will return to us.

Design features

The construction of professional equipment is standardized by the IEEE 1101.2-1992 (2001) specification. According to the standard, professional receivers are 19 1U (unit) high for installation in a telecommunication rack or cabinet.

Control

Do not look for remote controls in the delivery set of receivers. If you use household receivers, then one remote control will uncontrollably switch all receivers at once. Professional receivers stand in racks in the control room. The control room is closed and the lights are off. Control is carried out from another room (possibly remote) using a convenient web interface. To monitor the operability of the device, an optional SNMP interface (Simple Network Management Protocol) is installed.

Why does Crypton prefer multichannel receivers?

Crypton develops and manufactures professional multichannel receivers, which are used mainly by TV companies and Internet providers. There is no need to explain that the TV company receives dozens and even hundreds of programs. And to put hundreds of household receivers will never occur to anyone. And if one device has 8 receiving modules, then this is a gain in money, space, power consumption, management. You can often hear objections like: "I'd better put 8 single-channel receivers, then in case of breakdown of one, the loss will be less."

But you should know another very important advantage of multi-channel receivers with a built-in remultiplexer, which is often unaware of. If the reception is carried out to different devices, then the streams are transmitted to the remultiplexer, then delays occur during transmission and processing. The delays are especially high and unpredictable when using the IP interface. The resulting unacceptable jitter PCR (time stamps) should be removed by the remultiplexer.

To do this, the remultiplexer must have a memory buffer for each input and a special algorithm must select packets from the buffer strictly in time. That is, we first create jitter, then we successfully fight. It is difficult, expensive and there will always be an error. In a multi-channel receiver, all signals are in one place, there is no need to transmit, there are no delays. This means that you don't need to fight the terrible jitter! It turns out that the price of a multichannel receiver with a built-in remultiplexer is less than the price of a separate remultiplexer! And if a separate remultiplexer breaks down, it is not so important that 8 single-channel receivers are in good order.

Thus, the 8-channel receiver is the most economically efficient solution. Well, in the case of a breakdown ... You can organize a hot reservation with the saved money. After all, receivers have the ability to copy and transfer settings. And to switch, you do not need to rearrange the cables, just change the IP routing.

Why isn't the smart card subscription renewed in the CRT1081IRD receiver?

After the end of the subscription, the access card is disabled. The activation of the access card of most operators takes a long time. Therefore, the receiver or CAM module should not be turned off all the time.

The Сrypton CRT1081 series devices provide an automatic overload mode of the conditional access module if there is no decoding for 10 minutes. The mode is necessary for forced reset of modules that freeze randomly and allows the operator to avoid restarting modules manually or via the Web interface.

Therefore, we recommend disabling the "Autoreboot CAM" mode if the module works stably or if you need to activate the access card installed in the CAM module.
